4。5- This was fantastic, engaging, and informative, but it was inconsistent in providing size and habitat for each of the animals, which was surprising to me。

An illustrated book aimed at children, The World's Most Ridiculous Animals introduces kids to animals that are a bit ridiculous。Each page is an entry on an animal (there are a few entries that are double-paged。) At the top is the common name of the animal。 Underneath the common name is the scientific name of the animal, crossed out, and a jokey scientific name written below it。 The middle of the page is taken up by a cutesy illustration of the animal, with arrows and captions bordering the illus An illustrated book aimed at children, The World's Most Ridiculous Animals introduces kids to animals that are a bit ridiculous。Each page is an entry on an animal (there are a few entries that are double-paged。) At the top is the common name of the animal。 Underneath the common name is the scientific name of the animal, crossed out, and a jokey scientific name written below it。 The middle of the page is taken up by a cutesy illustration of the animal, with arrows and captions bordering the illustration, providing humorous comments on the animal。 At the bottom of the page is a paragraph giving a more proper explanation of the animal。The entries are funny, but the humor can get repetitive by the end。 The target audience would enjoy it better than any older reader whom the child roped in to read it for them。 Also, while some of the animals included truly earned the right to be called ridiculous, others do not。 Anyone who is into learning about animals has probably read about more ridiculous animals。 Of course, for the target audience, this would probably be their introduction to many of these animals, so to them, they are ridiculous。Finally, the store page lists this for 5-8-year-olds。 I would raise the age for kids who are trying to read this by themselves as there are certainly words that highly challenge kids in that age range。 Now, if an older person is reading to or assisting them, then it is more appropriate。 。。。more

Here's a fun and funny look at some of nature's stranger creatures。 There's a wacky painting of each critter, and silly comments。 (Did you know the common wombat produces cubic poop? I did not。) Plus, a paragraph of factual information about the animal。This is an enjoyable read that I'm betting young to middle-grade readers will adore。I only wish the illustrations had been a little more realistic, as I spent a lot of time Googling to see what beastie really looked like。A big thank you to NetGall Here's a fun and funny look at some of nature's stranger creatures。 There's a wacky painting of each critter, and silly comments。 (Did you know the common wombat produces cubic poop? Hilarious! What a wonderful book exploring animals of all kinds by Bunting! Scaled, feathered, furred, and hairless - you can find them all inside these brightly illustrated pages。 There is a great selection of animals, and I personally appreciated the babirusa representation。 Not only were the animals themselves interesting, but I thought the commentary was great to involve kids and draw them into learning in a fun way。 The adaptation of scientific names is really funny and there are many great puns。 Some What a wonderful book exploring animals of all kinds by Bunting! What a fun book! Each unusual animal has a cute cartoonish illustration with humorous labels, a brief summary of the animal and it’s adaptation, and it’s scientific name (cleverly replaced with something a bit funnier)。This book is perfect to middle-upper elementary students。 It is a great mix of educational and humorous that kids will love! The World's Most Ridiculous Animals by Philip Bunting is the second book in a series。 The first was The World's Most Pointless Animals, which came out last summer。 They do not need to be read as a series, but if you like the style, humor, and format of one you should go check out the other。 It is currently scheduled for release on July 12 2022。 The antagonist voice, shown though 'written' annotations through out the book, points out the apparent ridiculousness of each creature's features。 While The World's Most Ridiculous Animals by Philip Bunting is the second book in a series。 The first was The World's Most Pointless Animals, which came out last summer。 They do not need to be read as a series, but if you like the style, humor, and format of one you should go check out the other。 It is currently scheduled for release on July 12 2022。 The antagonist voice, shown though 'written' annotations through out the book, points out the apparent ridiculousness of each creature's features。 While the narrator also describes the evolutionary reasons or advantages for each animal's extraordinary characteristics。 Humor, information and illustrations fill this guide to ridiculous animals。 It includes funny labelled diagrams and will help teach kids about evolution by studying some of its most wild products。The World's Most Ridiculous Animals is a fun book。 I have to admit chuckling out load a couple times at the snarky commentary about the featured creatures。 However, it is also informative and this combination could be just the thing to help reluctant readers tackle nonfiction reading assignments or requirements for school and summer reading。 Many of the animals featured are familiar to me, but I did learn a little something new about even the Betta fish。 There were also several creature I have never heard of, like the Mexican Mole Lizard。 I think the balance of reasonably familiar and completely new animals is nice, keeping readers interested and engaged。 The artwork is fun and does a good job of capturing some of the real aspects of the animals and still being cartoonish。 The only thing I would have liked is some actual photographs of the creatures features (not all but at least a few) perhaps in the endpages, along with some recommendations of books or websites to see more。 。。。more

This book is hilarious and informative! I know that my kids would love this book and all the interesting creatures it talks about。 It also takes the different take on addressing specific things that make all of the creatures evolutionarily interesting and unique。 The pictures and illustrations are simple, but effective, and the book is laid out in a way that is not overwhelming to the reader。

A fun and informative book but older children will be able to appreciate it better than its intended target readership。As the title suggests, the book contains a compilation of various “ridiculous” animals。 The reason why they are put in this ignominious category ranges from their appearance to their eating habits to even their strange behaviour。 A wide range of animals, birds, fish, and insects is covered, and the information provided for each of the entries is, at the same time, hilarious and A fun and informative book but older children will be able to appreciate it better than its intended target readership。As the title suggests, the book contains a compilation of various “ridiculous” animals。 The reason why they are put in this ignominious category ranges from their appearance to their eating habits to even their strange behaviour。 A wide range of animals, birds, fish, and insects is covered, and the information provided for each of the entries is, at the same time, hilarious and mindboggling。 Each page has a bright and funny illustration of the specific animal。 There are cheeky labels surrounding the drawing, tagging its various body parts with quirky comments。 There’s relatively more sober text detailing the animal’s evolutionary information and extraordinary characteristics。 At the top of the page, the content also mentions the animal’s common name, its Latin biological name (which is struck through) and a substitute funny name that apparently suits it better。 For instance, an okapi is a “fancypantseum stinkyhoof” while a common wombat is a “cubus poopus。”There are a few reasons why I am not going higher in my rating。 👉 Amazon shows the reading age as 5-8 years but I don’t think readers of that age group will understand the puns and “dad jokes” scattered throughout the content。 Children aged 10+ might be a better target。👉 There are quite a few tough words, so younger readers might need a lot of assistance from knowledgeable adults (or the internet)。 👉 The strikethrough is overused。 I liked its usage as a substitute of the Latin name but when it comes in the content too, it gets very repetitive and even irritating。 👉 I feel like it missed on a few opportunities to provide explanations。 Like, why is a secretary bird called a secretary bird? Does the hairy anglerfish actually have hair? 👉 One instance where I wasn’t satisfied with the illustrations and felt like looking up the images of all the creatures mentioned。 The sketches are quite cute and quirky, but they don’t match up to the actual photos, especially as a lot of the “ridiculous” content is based on the appearance of the animals, and the illustrations don’t cover this angle accurately,However, this would be a wonderful book for animal lovers aged upper tween and above。 Substantiate the info in the book with googled photos of the animals and you will be able to appreciate the amazing features of those animals a lot better。 It’s an informative collection of animal trivia and offers a fun way of knowing more about some “ridiculous” animals on our planet。 The book did miss out on the most ridiculous one – the ‘homo not-so-sapiens’。4 stars。My thanks to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for the DRC of “The World's Most Ridiculous Animals”。 This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book。———————————————Connect with me through: My Blog | The StoryGraph | Facebook | Twitter 。。。more

I was hyped to see what kind of ridiculous animals we would be reading about。 I was curious if I was going to be laughing as much as I did with his last book。I loved the collection of animals that made up this book! We have a collection of 55 animals。 Anything from birds to spiders to fish to anything else。 There were plenty that I recognised when I looked at the content field。。 however there were a few that I didn’t know or didn’t know based on the English name, haha。 So I learned some new animals and I love it。 Like the adorable Sea Sheep, which isn’t really a sheep, but still very cute。 Or the not so cute, but still awesome zombie snail。 Also wtf to the Mexican Mole Lizard, what is that nature, what is that? Plus, I am happy to see some of my favourite babies pop up in the book, like my baby Gobi Jerboa (appropriate renamed to Jerboa Goboingi)。Just like the last time we don’t just get boring things about the animals, oh no, we get some really fun things! Again, we get a picture of the animal, but not the boring stuff。 Like with the maned wolf (longus leggus lupus is indeed a better Latin name) they have next to their ears the text: “How’s the weather up there?”。 Or at their feet: “Nice socks。”。 I had such a laugh at the peafowl whose text included: “Every day’s Mardi Gras for this guy。” I am delighted that the author went for the humour again and made learning about these ridiculous animals fun and interesting。 You just want to see what makes up these animals。 I also love that he fixed the Latin names to some funnier ones。 Here are a couple of my favourites: Markhor (Pongus Goatus), Bee hummingbird (Nectar Vampirus Teenyweenius), Green Basilisk Lizard (Slpishae Sploshea Itsamiraculae), Flamingo (Shrimpus Addictus), Frill-Neck Lizard (Draco Hissyfitium, which just reminds me of a certain character in HP XD), Lowland streaked tenrec (Sonic Notahedgehogium), Velvet Worm (Blastus Fromthe Pastus)。There are also tons of puns and jokes next to the things I mentioned。 Like this one: “Decorator crabs don’t like to share their ornaments。 They are a little shellfish。” or with the hummingbird: “The size of a bee! Sounds like a bee! It is… not a bee。”Like the previous book the art was just fabulous and I really enjoyed them! It really fitted with the theme of the book on how they were drawn。 Still very recognisable but also silly/ridiculous。Another book by Philip Bunting that I just got to give 5+ stars! And another one I desperately need for my own collection at home! I would highly recommend this book if you like animals + humour!Review first posted at https://twirlingbookprincess。com/ 。。。more
